Hello Kamelia,

I wanted to thank you for founding FRIENDS OF CYRUS DAY PROGRAM! It gives Michael and our entire family peace of mind that he is respected and loved and safe at your program, Monday through Friday.

We visited many day programs and we hit the Jack Pot when we found FRIENDS OF CYRUS. As with all families, my husband and I were scared of the unknown when the time came for Michael to transition from a school setting to an Adult Program.

Having Downs syndrome AND autism, we wondered if there was a "place" for him. Michael has behavioral issues and change is extremely difficult for Michael and us.

FRIENDS OF CYRUS made the transition to an Adult Day Program a smooth one. The entire staff had patience and took the time to get to know Michael as an individual, which I feel is not a given in every Adult Program. Even though Michael cannot always verbally express his happiness and contentment, he makes it known in various ways. He says, "Yay!" when I wake him and tell him it is a "Friends of Cyrus day." He gets ready in the morning with absolutely no difficultly. When the van arrives, staff greets him with big smiles and bright attitudes. Michael senses this positivity and is happy getting on the van. When he arrives home, we know he is content as he gets off the van singing. We sense his peace of mind by his face and body language and just through parent's intuition.

Socially, we have seen Michael grow. Michael avoided salutations, but now thanks to staff, He greets everyone with an appropriate Hello!! Family and friends are thrilled when Michael greets them with an appropriate "HI!" with appropriate intonation. Michael preferred caregiver attention. Now he enjoys times with his peers. Everyone at Friends of Cyrus respects Michael as an individual. He is never treated like a child who is unaware of what goes on in the world around him. During outings, staff is especially aware that each individual has different interests and levels of ability and works hard to make the outing a productive and fun experience for all. He also benefits from down time during the day as staff is keen that , like all of us, he needs time to regroup.

Thank you, Kamelia, for providing a wonderful place for Michael to grow and be proud and for giving us all that precocious gift of Peace of Mind. Happy Mikie, Happy Family!

Fondly,
Susan Saldutti and Family
